The World Up Close: July 18-21, 2023, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM

Macro photography can render overlooked scenes by shifting a viewer's perception of space and proportion. Pre-visualization - learning to see an image before making it - and then photographing it at extreme magnification presents specialized challenges, yet the resulting images can be extraordinary. In this workshop, acuity of scale and familiarity of macro photography's toolset are principles that run through demonstrations, creative assignments, and discussions.

Through practical demonstrations, field excursions, and studio playtime, this workshop introduces the necessary tools to capture hidden worlds and expose unassuming subjects. Concentrating on a technically refined workflow that integrates macro lenses, augmented lighting, and post-production software into transformative imagery. Macro photography does require some specialized equipment, please refer to the supply list. A DSLR camera and laptop with editing software is also required.
